Hurricane Sandy destroyed homes, washed out roads, and cut power for millions of people across eastern U.S. on Monday and Tuesday. Thousands of GE employees and their families are living in the stricken area. As Sandy churned closer over the weekend, GE teams throughout the region monitored conditions and applied contingency plans to maintain safe production.
GE is helping Red Cross fund recovery efforts.
Today, the majority of GE’s plants, labs and offices on the east coast are open. GE has not had any disruptions in business.
GE is also helping communities to recover from Sandy. As a member of the American Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving Program, GE Foundation has given $1 million a year for the last four years to help the Red Cross keep shelters open, serve hot meals and provide other emergency relief during storms like Sandy.
GE also supports employees who wish to make donations to the American Red Cross and other participating disaster relief organizations by matching employee gifts.
