GE responds to Fox News’s smears

Fox News and MSNBC are not in a heated rivalry. Fox blows them away in the ratings because they are simply toadies for the Obama administration. Also, a company that has to pay a 50 million dollar fine for cooking the books has damaged its own reputation.

If we had any fortitude, someone from GE would offer to appear on the O’Reilly show and obliterate this man in an interview. If we’re as confident as we should be about the morality and reputation of this company, then we wouldn’t have anything to worry about when O’Reilly tries (as he always does) to attack and intimidate the adversary he’s interviewing. Look at what Obama was able to accomplish by going on the Factor during the election: It was a huge campaign/political risk, but he did it anyway, survived the interview, and I guarantee it helped him pick up mainstream conservative votes. Someone from the Corporate offices needs to step up to the plate and get somone on O’Reilly’s program. Offer 15 minutes of your time so O’Reilly can get his "gotcha" questions ready… then handle yourself with dignity and calm and recite facts, and make O’Reilly look like the idiot that he is when he inevitably resorts to his hatespeech and yelling in the face of reasoned argument. Clips of the interview will be all over the internet with the headline "O’Reilly makes "bloviating" (Aside: nice word of the day, O’Reilly, considering 95% of intelligent Americans know what it means already) fool of himself." I could go on his show tonight and, simply by having a functioning brain and an endless mental library of the hateful lies he has spewed about every conceiveable topic for Nielsen ratings, expose this man for the fraud he is.

As a GE investor it would be in your best interest if they join up with the Government. Dont you think? That would hopefully mean guaranteed contracts etc.. and more money in the pocket.

My wife and I are long time GE stockholders.
We are very much disturbed by the very left slanted programming at MSNBC and think that GE would be better served if its broadcast policy was more balanced. As it is now, MSNBC discredits GE the reputation. However, we think CNBC, our financial channel is very high quality with very little or no politics involved – it does GE credit and is a pleasure to watch

As a shareholder, I believe GE should sue Fox network. Just like the movie American Violet. If you fight back it will never happen again.

As a GE Share holder I have a simple question for the CEO: What are you doing to turn the company around?

I bought the shares at $25 thinking it is a good deal. It is now at 12+.

Any way the shareholders can start a class action lawsuit against Fox News and Bill O’Reilly after all they have done damage to the shareholders. Seems they have gone too far and a class action lawsuit would help, at least it would get what seems to be not so accurate reporting to stop.

Reporting has gone by the wayside and I see a lot of Cable News channels saying what they THINK instead of the FACTS the way it used to be. Maybe if they start being called out on it in the form of a class action lawsuit we can go back to the days of real news reporting instead of vendettas. IF Fox News and Bill O’Reilly are doing just that then we as shareholders should be able to stop it.

I watch the Bill O’Reilly show because I have seen that he is not on either political side but looks out for the truth. The only place you get the real truth is on FOX. I stoped watching the other stations, including local when they stopped reporting news and starting making it.

Did I read this right? MSNBC is in a "heated rivalry" with Fox News? Did someone really write this? That is not what the ratings show…not by a country mile.

If the Fox report is untrue, then Ge should take legal action, with FACTS as proof. If, on the other hand, Fox turns out to be right, then Immelt should tender his resignation immediately. But will he have the courage to do so?

I have heard from reliable sources that Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Roger Ailes, Rupert Murdock and others at FOX News belong to the American Nazi Party.

Maybe Bill went a little too far when he was "surmising" GE was involved, but he did not state it as fact and we understood it that way. GE was not damaged by these statements. GE stands on its own by its own reputation, and the reputation is bad — really, really bad — even without O’Reilly. If you want him and others to stop tormenting you, then you need to straighten up your act.

It’s easy to claim that FNC is "smearing" you, but to imply that MSNBC is even competing with Fox News – well that’s laughable.

BTW, GE, why don’t you inform the American People just HOW MUCH YOU STAND TO GAIN IF CAP & TRADE PASSES??? Hmmm…is that why the NBC network aired Michael Jackson special after MJ Special during the week that Cap & Trade was being debated?

I am a fan of Bill, however I thought his accusation was out of place. He admits he has no evidence yet he makes the statement anyway. I think this was below Mr. O’Reilly. I’ll forgive him and watch his show anyway.

Fox blows MSNBC out of the water and aren’t Matthews and Olberman constantly smearing the people on FOX as well as it’s viewers? GE’s reputaion has been damaged since Jack Welch left and Immelt took over.

I have been standing by for years watching this company go downhill and I am sick of it. I have given everything to GE, been an A player my entire career here, and yet ever since Immelt took the helm, I have seen GE stock stay flat (until last year when it dropped to ridiculous lows). Our image is not driven by FOX news…it is driven by the choices Immelt has made.

I was in Iraq in 04&05. I heard that parts for roadside bombs had parts that were made by GE. To me this is old news, what is surprising is no one reported it to the news to get it out and what is surprising now is why is it coming out? And 4 plus years after I knew?

My nephew is in the military. If I find out that GE has ANYTHING TO DO with selling to the enemy….Fox News is the only fair and balanced network who is reporting this information. I am pretty sure that O’Reilly is reporting what the Factor has been told…that GE is under suspicion in this federal investigation. Maybe I do not know what smearing constitutes, but this sounds like basic reporting to me. As a former GE customer, a Vietnam Veteran, and the father of a soldier currently serving in Afghanistan I want to tell you how disgusting you and NBC are these days. I think GE has bigger problems than Fox News. Fox News, including Bill O’Reilly, has been usually right in the past. Instead of being smeared, I think GE is ticked off that they were called out on their unethical business operations. well, since immelt is a proven liar about dealing with iran i don’t think its a stretch to believe there is more misconduct. it is obvious, however, that o’reilly intensly dislikes immelt, and i’m sure that is part of his motive. nobody smeared the good people who do the real hands on work of ge, only the dishonest executives like immelt.

The best way I can tell GE what I think of them and their practices, is to divest myself of everthing possible, that has anything to do with GE. I sold my GE stock, won’t buy GE appliances, or watch any of their trash programing. Based on what I’ve seen, it would not surprise me if they were somehow, if not directly, responsible for these parts used to manufacture these explosive devices, or continue to do business with Iran. Immelt has no conscience and does not care about the country, its people or the consequences of his policies.

I watch Fox because it does give both sides. It is amazing to me that it is wrong if moderates and conservatives are upset by what government is trying to do. No where in the Constitution does the federal government have the right to do the things that it does. The Constitution pretty much lists very few things that the federal government is allowed to do. Mostly provide for the common defense and interstate commerce.
I don’t know whether anything is going on with the investigation but from the looks of your bottom line and stock price that is the least of your problems. MSNBC only gives one side of a story. That is not a news organization that is a public relation firm.

I feel that the response to the Fox News coverage is amusing. Mr. O’Reilly’s coverage was extremely fair. My question is a simple one. How does GE think that anyone will trust them when they operate a "news" organization that backs a candidate/president to spin coverage to fascilitate the support of legislation that will make GE rich? It is crazy to think that anyone will take their word at face value. There is a reason that msnbc is getting killed by Fox News. Fox News is a REAL news organization rather than a "love Obama no matter what he does" and a "lets do another program on how George W. Bush is to blame for everything bad in America" tv station.

But this charge that Fox News makes is not out of the realm of possibility considering GE’s past and current conflicts of interest. GE Capital was bailed out by the government after GE Capital was accepted as a financial institution. My taxes paid for GE’s bailout and I have a right to question their ethics.

Maybe if MSNBC was called out a whole lot more then with all the lawsuits you wouldnt have any stock left to sell! GE once represented what was right with American industry – be the best, produce great products, make a profit, reward the shareholders, be a great American icon. Now they pretend to do battle on TV news, pay fines to the SEC, invest in schemes that reduce the great GE Capital to a mere shadow of its former self, reduce profits, pander for political gains and degrade shareholder value.

I am an ex-GE employee and a Fox viewer. I can’t stand the slanted MSNBC ‘news’ coverage, but I am very disappointed in O’Reiley’s blatant attack on GE. It is an obvious attack on Obermann indirectly. The whole feud is between 2 enormous egos and leaves those of us who want some real news to find CNN. I recently found that Blitzer actually was interviewing Doctors and discussing the healtcare issue. A pax on both houses. As for the attack, I am waiting for OReiley to back up his charges or apologize to GE and the folks who listen in.

Now, Fox is the best at reporting and O’Reilly is the best of that network in being or presenting the most straightline unbiased reporting on ANY subject. It is sad that GE has not had the courage to debate any of the allegations OReilly has made except in a press release like this on a web site. If Immelt was worth his salt, then he would go on the Factor and take the issues on in front of America.

I used to own GE stock. Immelt said on CNBC that the dividend was secure & a week later cut it in half! I sold. Their cable "news" channel MSNBC is a joke. My wife and I have owned GE stock for retirement funds long before J Immelt arrived and ruined this fine company. My losses on the stock are so great I continue to hold on but the company’s actions make me ashamed that I continlue as a stockholder.

As a "underwater" shareholder, I would hope the GE board of directors would share in and publicly express its outrage at the use of these RF devices that kill and injure our American Heros. Before you GE shareholders advocate legal action against Fox, it would be wise to listen to what Mr. O’Rielly actual said. Of course, I didn’t expect anyone in the GE Corporate Front Office to answer the other accusations made by Mr. O’Rielly against GE, MSMBC time and time again. The reason they don’t, they have no defense for the poor performance of GE or MSNBC.

Can any of you shareholders say for certain that the corrupt GE front-office isn’t involved with illegal trafficing in weapons? How could you justify your position when GE has already admitted to weapons sell beyond the original date given. They pay fines for accounting errors. The stock is in the tank. MSNBC is in the tank. So why should any of you believe without "proof" that what is being said by the front-office is true. Has this group lied in the past?

If I were a stockholder today (I sold my stock at $39.00 per share several years ago when a certain individual was named CEO) I would be wanting changes in the Board of Directors and the Executives at GE.

Jeffrey Immelt has driven a once proud company into the toilet. When there is a question of credibility between Bill O’Reilly, Obama and Immelt there is no doubt, Bill O’Reilly is believable.

As a shareholder I am embarrassed by the biased programming content on MSNBC. The GE board of directors is responsible for not reigning in Mr. Immelt. The GE board is responsible for the poor financial performance of GE. When will the board stand up and fire Mr. Immelt?

Bill, I watch all of you on FOX from 9:00 am until 11:00 pm every chance I get. Please keep up with how and what you are reporting. It’s about time the public got to hear the TRUTH. We have been Hood-Winked by the other news channels and Government for too long.

I am more prone to believe Fox News and their investigative reporters than some prepared statement by attornies for GE. I Feel along with other Americans that any company that is involved in aiding the terrorists or killing any of our fine young american soldiers is no friend of mine. Shame on you! I am a longtime GE shareholder, disgusted with the direction Jeff Immelt is taking the company. This is another example of the controversies that are damaging a once great corporation and destroying the credibility of NBC News. If Immelt cares about his shareholders he will dump the loony, left-wing MSNBC and allow NBC News to ease it’s liberally slanted reporting.

So was O’Reilly lying when he reported that GE cooked it’s books – or was the $50,000,000 Dollar fine part of a right wing conspiracy. I dumped my stock over a year ago after watching NBC and hearing the National Barrack Network stomping on Hillary. I new right then that the only way that the number 4 network goes is DOWN.

Bill is not always right but he is here. To compare dissent with racism is impalpable.

O’Reilly was not the only one reporting GE’s possible links to illegal sales. A blogger made an analogy by saying he could not confirm it but, "heard that O’Reilly was a communist". Because of O’Reilly’s reputation such a statement means nothing to him or, anyone else. Unfortunately, G.E. cannot stand on it’s reputation and consequently is suspect and such suspicions deserve consideration. Add to that G.E.’s vested interest in MSNBC and that news station’s reporting of the story is absolutely worthless. As the American people realize more and more about the Obama administration’s links to unsavory people and organizations its credibility continues to deteriorate. It appears more and more to be a corrupt organization.

I’m glad my father did not live to see the day that GE would be shaming it’s good name with all the shananagans they have been up to, especially cooking the books and being involved with these devices that, in around about way, can be traced back to GE. if that was not true GE would fight it in court!
I’m also glad I got rid of my GE stocks before Immelt could lower it’s value. I no longer want anything to do with GE, and try my best to stay away from all their products & subsidiaries. I never watched msnbc, and probably never will.

I watch both Fox and MSNBC and try to find the truth somewhere in the mix. Where the truth lies can sometimes be revealed in the tactics of the response from each to the other. Personal afronts and attempte to marginalize or divert are often tactics of guilty parties. I recommend that you respond to Bill O’Rielly"s questions in a manner that does not make you look guilty. The truth will either set you free or convict you.

Wow! It’s so enlightening to watch all you liberals go on in your daydreams of shouting insults on TV to people reporting the news. At least O’Reilly is reporting and inviting people to make their own decisions based on the facts. NBC and MSNBC simply tell you their twisted crap and expect you to believe it. It was clearly stated that Fox could not confirm that GE was under suspicion and later stated that he was not accusing anyone of anything. The ensuing discussion was aimed toward understanding whether the American people would be privliged to the information if the Justice Dept chose not to prosecute(if any wrongdoing was found), or will we be kept in the dark. This seems to be a legitimate question that should be asked and discussed. To those of you who have to scream about Fox Zombies and Fuhrers and are unable to engage in relevant debate with the adults, please keep your TV viewing to SpongeBob and Speedracer. I have confidence in Fox News giving me the correct information. I believe that GE has gone astray in regard to the best interests of the American people who have supported them by purchasing their products and services through the years. It is time to take a good look at the negative aspects of what GE is doing to this country with their policies and alignments with radical political entities to acquire unreasonable profits over the Green Energy hoax being imposed on the people of this nation. No individual company should have this much power. I am alarmed about the aledged involvement of GE with the Iranian government to provide technology of warfare that could be used against our military. I remain a concerned patriotic American who has worked in healthcare for 35 years and appreciate the freedoms given to me through the sacrifice of those who lost their lives so that I may live in a country where I am free from tyranny.

Perhaps GE should look at the ratings if they think Bill O’Reilly is in a ratings fight with MSNBC. With what I have seen on MSNBC, they do more harm to GE than Bill O’Reilly ever could. Perhaps the fact that you have had to pay a fine for improper bookkeeping has more to do with your reputation than Bill o’Reilly. With MSNBC, NBC, paying fines, getting sweetheart deals with this administration, what you have to say does not count for a whole lot.

This is serious stuff. It would seem to me that GE should take a stand and challange Fox in court or at least go live on the Factor. Talk is cheap-takes money to buy whiskey.

I truly pray that GE, with it’s proud history, is not involved or affiliated with any company doing harm to our service men and women overseas. My advise is, If there is nothig to hide then open your doors, open your books and welcome the investigation. Show that GE is an all american company we can be proud of….or suffer the consequences.

Being a fan of Bill O’Reilly – I know he always checks his facts. He did mention GE but he did not accuse! But he most certainly knows his facts. And one of the commentors mentioned that a GE representative should go on O’Reilly .. that is an excellent idea but do be aware that no on has ever obliterated Bill O’Reilly in an interview.

First of all as John said earlier, the idea that Fox News and MSNBC are in a heated rivalry is a joke. Fox News blows them away in every time slot because their anchors and commentators don’t get tingley feelings down their legs every time a certain politician speaks. And secondly Bill O’reilly did not say that GE was guilty. He only said that they might be investigated. And it is a fact that GE has done business with Iran in the past.

As a stockholder of this company, I am ashamed to say that Fox News gives far more balanced and comprehensive coverage than this company’s News divisions do. If, as you say, the suspicions are baseless, then the investigation will show that. Your attack on another news organization is absolutely unwarranted. Management would be better served by actually assembling a fair balanced news division of its own than worrying about what another company says.

Dear GE,
I used to hold GE in very high esteem. I remember the heady years when GE’s superb reputation resounded world-wide. I have never been affiliated with GE except during earlier years as a very pleased retail customer. Talk on the street in those days was that GE didn’t market a product unless GE intended the product to rank 1 – 2 or 3 in the market-place.

Oh, how times have changed… I have noted in recent years, the way in which MSNBC daily misbehaves, throwing prudent journalism to the wind but unmistakably intentionally and with out remorse, trades in lies, spinning to serve their lowly purposes and mismatches panelists. That mismatch often takes the form of a liberal show host, hosting a stacked panel of all liberals or, at the most, one conservative.

I confess to watching MSNBC for brief moments sometimes daily, just because it amuses me to sometimes watch and listen as pretenders put on their act. Rest assured, I never watch MSNBC to learn the truth.Please trust that the bulk of my viewing is with your competitors.

For the truth, or atleast fair and balanced political conversation, I trust Fox News Channel. Yes, I’ll say FNC’s philosophical view of the world alligns closely with mine. I feel I get reasonable reporting from Fox.

As to Mr O’Reilly… I’ve watched him for years now. He seems to never disappoint me with his commentaries which I believe to be cobbled from honest representations of the facts, atleast as he understands them.

As Mr O’Reily puts it in this current IED source discussion, "I don’t know all the facts". I think, however, human nature as it is, would counsel that in a he-said / she-said such as this IED controversy, one would tend to disbelieve the party that has been lieing, distorting all along. By your association with MSNBC, GE, it follows that I have difficulty accepting your version. The old saying goes, "Lie to me once..Shame on you. Lie to me twice..Shame on me."

I see from others commenting and concurring, that GE’s star does not shine as bright as it once did. I see I am not alone in longing for your better days. My advice to you GE is to not protest too loudly. Things will only get worse.

I find it amusing that the best response you can give to this apparent "smear campaign" is a childish attempt to discredit Fox News and O’Reilly. It’s equally amusing that you’re whole lot thinks that the public can continue to be fooled by your games. You’ve lost the trust of the masses. I’m sure it was fun while it lasted.

Lets see if I get this right.. GE is huffing and puffing, but not acting, Obama is whining and crying because America won’t play ball with him, sounds like they are both going to pick up their marbles and go home because they can’t BS the American people. O’Reilly tries to see both sides but after awhile if it looks, acts and quacks like a duck then it has to be a duck. We could always ask WHPS Gibbs, he could be the new GE Spin doctor. Immelt needs to go, and be replaced with someone who knows how to make GE a great company. They need to sell off their news orgs, maybe Obama will take it over, then we can have a news czar. 24/7 of Obama news. After he bankruots us, maybe he could them hold a telethon to raise money, have ACORN answer the phones. We need FOX to at least give us news that we can decide on.

Newspapers and Cable News are dying due to such total left bias that they are not worth wasting time on. FOX is the only station that provides real unbiased news. O’Reilly rules Cable News so attack may help your sad excuse for a news outlet but don’t hold your breath. I watched the O’Reilly Factor in full and heard what Bill O’Reilly said. He did not accuse GE of any wrong doing. O’Reilly actually went out of his way to say, "The factor is not accusing anyone of anything." This story is about American made products being used to hurt and kill American Soldiers (which is a major news story). O’Reilly let his viewers know that there may be a classified investigation underway involving an American Company.

O’Reilly reported that "the Factor" had been told, (but could not confirm) that the General Electric corporation was under investigation. He reported that GE responsed stating that they do not do business with Corezing International.

As a Law Enforcement Officer, I have news for the General Electric Corporation, we don’t send out memos or tell you when we are investigating you. That would be absolutely ridiculous. If anything, O’Reilly helped GE out by giving them a heads up. Sounds to me like someone involved in an investigation may have leaked information, which would not be a first.

This information did not in any way state that GE did anything wrong nor accuse this corporation of wrong doing.

I just hope that the e-mail statement GE provided was accurate. I still remember when Jeff Immelt stated that GE did not do business with Iran. Which turned out to be an incorrect statement.

GE should fire Immelt, (get out of partisan politics) and go back to making quality appliances at affordable prices so that the American Tax Payers, your shareholders and consumers don’t have to bail you out again.

I now understand what "imagination at work" means.

When Jeffrey Immelt took over GE eight short years ago, his leadership has taken a great company named General Electric that had a stock price of $39.35 to now a Government Entity and a stock value of $14.10 at closing today.

The only tingle I have had come up my leg (sorry Chris Matthews), is when I sold my GE stock at $36 in December of 2004. Board of directors do your job and fire Immelt, by doing so, you will be "bringing good things to life" again.

Look, you want to defend your company? Go on the O’Reilly Show. It gets the biggest audience. I heard GE is selling, is that true? Maybe you should dump MSNBC, reporting the news should be independent agencies anyway with ethical unaffiliated reports.
Take the high road, admit your mistakes, then move on. My company has some kind of partnership with GE, but I’m thinking about influencing the upper management to cut ties. Open up, GE or else your stocks will keep falling.

morning joe is cool maybe better than fox and friends but i watch cnbc in the morning anways and when i want the unbiased news i do watch fox most of the time with the exception of anderson cooper on cnn he’s not bad. actually the only person on cnn i really do not enjoy watching is larry king i don’t even know what kind of show he does anyways, but orielly is the best, makes me feel right at home.

Based on your comments above, you obviously didn’t listen to what Mr. O’Reily said. As far as the competition between Fox and MSNBC goes, you are so far left that you don’t even try to hide it. And if it comes out in an investigation that your company has done or is currently doing business with terrorist organizations, whether its through a third party or not, I will make it my life-long vow never to purchase any of your products. I would also like to comment on your advertising that references veterans who are in your employment. It is an obvious ploy to gain respect from veteran loving Americans. Based on your political contributions and lobbying, in support of anti-military political candidates and/or groups, I feel that your advertising is very hypocritical.

Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly is a highly respected journalist who reports the facts about the problem of American-manufactured IEDS that our killing our soldiers. Bill does not need to rely on hyperbole. He and his research team need to check and recheck facts before they are released to the public. Some other news agencies could learn a lesson hmm NBC? Fox is held to a higher standard of newsreporting (God knows if they weren’t they’d be sued.) Jeff Immelt had told O’Reilly’s producer that he did not sell arms to Iran – this turned out to be a lie. We lose trust in a company like GE when we discover such un-American dealings with a country like Iran to make a buck; all the while killing our men and women who are serving our great country. This is treason. I will not purchase any GE Products. P.S. Bill always offers opposing points of view so why doesn’t Immelt appear on his show to explain whether or not he was involved in any unseemly shennigans. It all comes out in the wash sooner or later. GE’s outrage at a implication is almost laughable. It would be easier to feel sorry for you if you weren’t trying so hard to insert yourselves into the "story" you are trying to report on. What happened to a media that presents facts and NOT political opinions. I had half my life savings in GE and now I have lost almost all of it because of bad management. Immelt has mismanaged the GE company and now he is working for Obama. MSNBC is a joke and I just get sick watching it. I have been a democrat for over 45 years and I didn’t vote for Bush but I did Obama and now I am sorry I did. He is driving our great country bankrupt and his Czars do not know what they are doing. I have to watch FOX so I can get the news.
