GE’s first ‘made-in-China’ locomotive hits the rails

GE Transportation and its Chinese partner Qishuyan Locomotive have introduced the first of 298 China Mainline Locomotives assembled in-country. GE manufactures and ships the powerful locomotives in kits from its U.S. plants to Qishuyan located in Changzhou, China, for assembly.

GE’s China Mainline Locomotive generates 6,250 GHP and can pull the equivalent of 205 Boeing 747 “Jumbo Jet” airliners. At the same time, the most technologically advanced locomotive on China’s rails can cut key emissions by up to 50%, improve fuel efficiency by up to 10% and lower life-cycle costs by up to 15% compared to locomotives currently in use in China.
