Contributor Lorraine Bolsinger is president and CEO of GE Aviation Systems
Yesterday, I was in Suzhou, China, to help announce the opening of GE Aviation Systems’ new manufacturing facility — a 200,000 square foot site that’s immediately ready to start producing in the world’s largest new market for the aerospace industry.
Flying high: GE is the largest engine supplier to the Chinese aviation industry.
GE already has systems on virtually every civil aircraft flying today, supplying some of the most advanced composite structures, electronics, and mechanical and electrical power systems for our customers around the world. Needless to say, the new growth prospects for GE in China are exciting and our new facility offers a terrific opportunity to expand our strategic partnerships in the country.
Jet set: At the opening ceremony, Lorraine Bolsinger, president and CEO of GE Aviation Systems, said, “Suzhou will play a key role in our mission to deliver competitive and time-critical civil aerospace programs.”
Our Suzhou site is capable of producing state-of-the-art composite parts, mechanical fabrications, structure assembly and the complex systems used in creating lift and thrust in commercial aircraft. Although we operate in many countries around the world, I could not be more excited about expanding our presence here as building this facility allows us to win additional orders not just in China, but for the entire business.
GE is already proudly working with China to supply engines and systems for the ARJ21 regional jet — a large production program which is one of the country’s national priorities. And we’re looking to further partner with the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China on its large commercial aircraft program. We have great confidence that the talents of our Suzhou employees will contribute to these exciting new projects, as well as to major programs in which GE’s already involved, such as work on Boeing’s 737 and 777 and the new double-decker Airbus A380 and A350, just to name a few.

Although it is nice to open in Suzhou that could end up closinng some of US and UK facilities…GE credo as a "secure and safe" comapny…management needs to be concerning of the US based employees…
I would think that GE would understand by now that investors only want to see information about GE Capital and how you are going to first fix it secondly shrink it to a 5% or less portion of the company.Take a poll and I am sure you will find that your marketing stories are not well received and actually upset the investor.Investors only want to know how you are going to get rid of the hedgefund known as GECS and bring back stability and integrity to GE.As Keith Sherin said" we can shrink GECS anytime by not issuing new debt vs receiveables" DO IT AND DO IT NOW !!!!!!! No more new debt and get rid of the old and current debt
Nice and informative blog post. Thank you!
It’s nice to see GE supplies their overseas companies with caps and uniforms. We’re still waiting on our uniforms….What’s wrong with that picture?
When I was studying in university in Wuxi, China, sometimes, I liked to ride a bicycle to travel aroud, and everytime when I passed the GE Healthcare company in Wuxi new district, I stopped and stayed outside it for a moment, because it’s a so respectable company that even the gatekeepers knowed that the founder of the company is the man who invented electric bulb, and now 3 years passed since I graduated from college, but the enthusiasm had no passed away a little, an imagination work is still as my career dream and a goal to strive for, and hope the day come quickly.
And good luck with you everyday.
