Sensors can support auto efficiency plans

By Mark Kingsley, Chief Marketing Officer, GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies
The US auto bailout discussions on environmental stipulations, combined with the expectation of “greener” legislation from the Obama administration have made driving “green” a priority.

Sensing “greener” legislation: GE Sensing’s chief marketing officer, Mark Kingsley, tells how sensing technologies can help automakers comply with new policies.
One of the easiest ways for automakers to accommodate Obama’s auto efficiency plans in the short term is to quickly update sensing technology in vehicles already on the market. Tire pressure, proper fuel temperature and regulation of C02 and HC gas emissions are just three of the critical functions that sensors help control, and help consumers embrace green initiatives now. GE is a leading innovator in these technologies and new technologies such as the diesel particulate filter.

Sensors are the primary underlying determinant of a vehicle’s efficiency and safety – to both the occupants inside and the environment – and can make or break automakers’ ability to comply with new policies. The proper selection, integration and application of sensors will give automakers the advantage they need to survive in the new consumer market and live up to Obama’s emerging standards.

Agree 100%. Safety, efficiency, and environmental improvements heat up the stage for competitive value and technology leadership. Mark says it like is! Facts are transportation sensors grow even in a down market with this strategy. A win win.. thanks for the article.

We are working with materials for encapsulating electronics, looking at/for applications where the electronics (could be MEMS) are operating in extreme temperatures or hostile chemicals – liquids, gasses.

Has anyone come across sitautions where these parameters pervail?
