Making hybrid technologies possible

With the Detroit Auto Show firing on all cylinders (pardon the pun), everyone seems to be enamored with hybrid vehicle technology. At GE we’ve been in with hybrids for quite some time now, and we thought this would be a great chance to share some of our cool hybrid technology for boats, trains, buses and off-highway vehicles.

GE helps keep football fans safe

As Florida and Oklahoma face off in tonight’s BCS National Championship Game at Dolphin Stadium, GE Security video technology will be working behind the scenes to help ensure that the only thing fans need to worry about is how the SEC will fare against the Big 12. The Miami Dolphins recently partnered with GE Security to deploy an advanced IP video solution, which includes GE Security Megapixel and pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) Legend Dome cameras and Video Management System (VMS) software. The video system is being used to identify and respond to emergencies and other situations in the stands (read: unruly fans who have a little too much spirit), as part of the NFL’s “Fan Code of Conduct” program.

GE helps you face holiday travels with a holiday smile

The holidays are coming to full steam like grandma’s peppermint tea, and for most, that means holiday travel. However, instead of sugarplum fairies, this dreaded holiday tradition often involves visions of endless lines, overcrowded terminals, and that guy in 6C who will not stop snoring.

Iraq awards GE $3 billion gas turbine contract

The future of energy has been the subject of intense discussion around the world, and Iraq has not been left out of that debate. Demand for electricity in the country is nearly double the supply. GE announced today a landmark agreement with Iraq’s Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to provide power generation equipment capable of supplying 7,000 megawatts of much-needed electricity to Iraq’s energy grid.

GE CFLs slip into something a little more comfortable

Any self-proclaimed design expert knows the first rule of lighting choices – fashion always trumps function. This is especially true in contemplating the switch to the spiral-laidened fashion faux pas known as compact fluorescent lighting (CFL). Well no longer. GE has come up with a way to miniaturize the nuts and bolts of your standard CFL bulb and fit it into a traditional incandescent-shaped bulb. Coining the phrase, “the best of both bulbs” these new bulbs have all the environmental and energy-saving benefits of a CFL, but will actually fit nicely into your lampshades. The new covered GE Energy Smart® compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs will be available at Target stores nationwide starting December 28.
